'행사장'도, '파빌리온'도 아니다.
Not a 'Venue', Nor a 'Pavilion'.
 
《서울 마루 프로젝트 2021: 공공 개입》 프로젝트는 예술 기관/행사의 일부가 아닌, 도시, 건축 담론 활동의 중심 역할이 되고자 야심을 가지고 2년 전 출항한 도시건축전시관이 주체라는 사실이 과거의 세계적으로 인기를 끌었던 ‘파빌리온 프로젝트’와 구별됩니다. 이와 동시에 과거 사례들의 태도와 방식처럼 ‘행사장’의 ‘파빌리온’일 수만은 없는, 극단적으로 복합적인 도시/사회적 조건들이 도전적 개입 현장으로써 주어집니다.
The Seoul MARU Project 2021: Public Intervention is not part of an art institution/event. It is distinguished from past examples by the fact that it is organized by the Seoul Hall of Urbanism & Architecture, which set out two years ago with the ambition to play a central role in urban and architectural discourses. At the same time, the given site for intervention presents extremely complex urban/social conditions, challenging the attitudes and ways of the past examples of 'pavilions' in a 'venue’.
 
이곳 현장에서만 가능한 건축으로 할 수 있는 공공장소에서의 개입에 관한 다양한 도시적 상상력이 요구되는 특별한 기회입니다. 어떤 방식의 개입이 주변의 도시사회적 환경과 구별되며 보완적으로 관계, 작동할지, 이를 위한 잠재적 가능성은 무엇인지에 관한, 구체적인 아이디어, 전략은 참여자에게 전적으로 맡겨집니다. ‘구체적 건축 유형’이 기대되는 대신, ‘구체적인 도시 조건’이 과제로서 주어지고 한시성에 관한 전략, 설치 기간, 제한된 공사 금액만이 추가 과제로 주어지며, ‘공공 개입’ 방식은 초대된 건축가들에게 맡겨집니다.
It is a unique opportunity that requires diverse urban imaginations about public intervention through architecture that is only possible on this site. Specific ideas and strategies are left entirely to the architect as to what ways of intervention can be distinguished from the surrounding socio-urban environment and perform in complementary ways, and what the potentials are. A 'specific architecture typology' is not an expected task. Instead, 'specific urban conditions' are given as a task. In addition, strategies for temporality and a limited construction time and budget are the additional assigned tasks, and ways to ‘intervene the public’ are left to the invited architects.

<서울 어반 핀볼 머신> 프로젝트는 우리 도시를 구성하는 다양한 재료와 질감(texture)이 시각적, 물리적으로 경험되는 새로운 공공장소(public space), 놀이터(playground), 쉼터, 퍼블릭 퍼니처이자 랜드스케이프입니다. 기존 서울도시건축전시관의 기울어진 경사면을 활용해 설치된 10mX20m 크기의 아웃도어 핀볼 머신과 친환경 소재로 만들어진 오브젝트들은 새로운 도시적 즐거움과 경험들을 시민들에게 제공합니다. 시민들은 야외에서 핀볼 게임을 즐기고 산책하며 서울마루 지붕 위에 새롭게 개입된 랜드스케이프를 경험하게 됩니다.
<Seoul Urban Pinball Machine> Project is a landscape consist of public space, playground, shelter, public furniture where different material and texture can be experienced visually and physically. On the titled slope of Seoul Hall of Urbanism & Architecture, the outdoor pinball machine is sized 10m x 20m and install with eco-friendly materials can provide citizens with new fun and experience in the city. Citizens can enjoy pin balling in the outdoor while stroll on the new addition on Seoul MARU.
 
제안된 오브젝트들은 도시를 구성하는 기존 건축 재료에 더불어, 재생 콘크리트, 바이오 플라스틱(bio-plastic) 등 리사이클링/업사이클링 재료를 활용해 만들어집니다. 이는 팬데믹 이후 우리 도시가 바라보는 하나의 관점을 대변하는 시도이며, 회복에 대한 도시 공동체의 자신감을 공유하는 장소가 됩니다.
The object is built with existing building materials and together with regenerated concrete and bio-plastic, etc. which are recycling/ upcycling materials. It tries to present the city view after the pandemic and to share the urban community’s confidence in recovery.
